AstraZeneca has launched a generic version of its Astra-Zeneca drug Nexium.

The drug is available as a 2mg tablet, with a maximum daily dose of 20mg, and as an 8mg tablet, with a maximum daily dose of 28mg.

The new drug is made by Astra-Zeneca, and will be sold by Teva.

The drug, which was originally expected to be available from July, is a prescription medicine. It is approved for use by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, but is still under patent.

Patents for generic medicines can be challenged by the patent-ee, which says it will not be able to sell the drug at the expected price.

Last month, AstraZeneca said it had filed a patent infringement suit against a generic drug maker that had sold the drug in Canada and in other countries.

The suit said the company was trying to gain an monopoly on the drug by selling it for a price that would be lower than the price of AstraZeneca's cheaper drug, Prevacid.

Pursuant to the Canadian Competition Act, the Canadian Patent Act requires patents obtained by an applicant to be held by the patentee until the drug is approved by the FDA and the patent expires.

The patent will expire in 2017, and the generic versions of the drug will be available in the U. by January 2025.

Pfizer Inc. has said the drug is not available in the U. under the patenting rules.

AstraZeneca is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, with a market share of around 5.8% in the European region.

The company said it had filed a patent infringement suit against Pfizer in the U. K. over claims that the drug was not safe and effective.

The generic drug, AstraZeneca's version of Nexium, has a recommended dose of 20mg and will cost $28 for a month's supply.

Pfizer, which is selling the drug at a 30% discount, has previously said it would not offer an agreement to sell it at the reduced price and could not comment on the decision.

In an interview with a medical journal in December, Dr. John Nicholson, president of the American Society for Health-System Pharmacy, said the company had hoped that the lawsuit would help it make a better deal.

In the past, Celebrex was linked to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, and Pfizer said it would not launch the drug in the U. by the end of the year.

AstraZeneca has said it will pay $6.5 billion to settle patent-infringement claims brought by the plaintiffs. It expects to pay more than $12 billion in legal costs.

In the U. S., AstraZeneca is the second largest drugmaker by revenue, after Teva Pharmaceuticals LP. The company said its sales in the U. for the first nine months of 2024 were $3.8 billion.

The U. is the second-largest market for pharmaceuticals, with sales of $1.7 billion last year. The largest market was Canada, with sales of $0.6 billion in 2024.
